Kathleen (Kathi) McCarty was born in Chicago and is the oldest of her nine siblings. At the age of 13, she was given an academic scholarship to a private girls’ convent boarding school. After high school, she lived in California, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico, eventually landing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. At the age of 23, she came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Kathi returned to college at the age of 43, but in October of ’94, her son and daughter-in-law were killed in a motorcycle-truck accident, changing the course of her life.
A combination of tragedies brought Kathi to the realization that the Lord was calling her into ministry, so she switched majors and took a year of pastoral care classes through Berean University, with an emphasis on grief counseling. Kathi’s also been trained in Cleansing Stream Ministries (Jack Hayford) and has completed several of the requirements for Restoring the Foundation (RTF). In 2002, Kathi answered the call to minister to the women at Taycheedah Correctional Institution, and was ordained locally in that same year. In June of 2004, she was licensed and ordained through Harvest Network International and in August of 2005, accepting a position as part of the pastoral team of Cornerstone Church in Menasha, Wisconsin.
Kathi’s philosophy about living the Christian life is relatively simple and straightforward. “No one ever promised us that life would be easy or fair, but Jesus did promise us that whatever we face in life, He will be with us in it, and His grace will bring us through it. It’s not our circumstances that change us for the better or worse, but how we respond. The singular objective of our faith is to be transformed into the image of our Savior and Lord Jesus. If we live by faith in Him and His Word, He will take even those things the enemy meant for our destruction, and use them for our good and His glory. He is faithful, and it’s nice to know we’re all a work in progress.”
Kathi is an avid reader, loves classical music, particularly Rachmaninov, enjoys her flower beds, and admits she’s Irish through and through when it comes to food preferences – meat and potatoes all the way! As a 21-year breast cancer survivor, however, she doesn’t often choose to indulge herself in those pleasures. Generally, you’ll find her sitting in front of a healthy soup, salad, or fruit plate. Kathi resides in Neenah, Wisconsin with her special-needs daughter, Sarah, where they cultivate a garden, enjoy cooking, and watch movies.
