Before I became a mother, I was one of those fortunate women who could sleep soundly through the night no matter what was going on — thunder storms, loud partying neighbors, the roar of trucks or motorcycles — nothing could stir me from deep slumber.
Once my first child was born, everything changed, and it hasn’t been the same since. I hear every sneeze, sniffle, and those little things that go bump in the night. Parenthood made me super-conscious of any sound that could suggest that any of my children might need me, and it made me supremely aware of my responsibility to protect my children from harm.
Oh, how I would have loved to have been able to promise my children that I would protect them from every difficult or painful experience they may have, but that’s just not how life works, is it?
The Bible tells us God is our Father and that He’s the consummate parent. He never sleeps or slumbers (Ps 121:4). Our Father knows our every need even before we express it, and He hears every sound we make in His direction. He’s completely aware of when we are in challenging or painful circumstances.
But even as God, our Father could not promise that we won’t go through difficult or painful times (Jn 16:33), like any good parent, He DOES promise that He will be there for us in the midst of that challenge or the heartache that we’re facing.
Perhaps you are in the middle of something that is painful or challenging right now. Remember — Father God loves you. You don’t have to face it alone. He is right there with you, and He is able to bring you through it with His tremendous love and grace.
